Can fixed-term lay-offs be interrupted temporarily?

Lay-off

If an employer gets work in during a lay-off, they must offer the work to their laid-off employees. Both the employer and the relevant employees must agree to the temporary interruption of the lay-off. Employers cannot terminate a fixed-term lay-off early without their employees’ consent. Employers can interrupt a lay-off by calling their employees back into work and, if necessary, resume the lay-off by issuing a new lay-off notice in accordance with the normal lay-off notice rules. There may also be provisions concerning temporary interruptions of fixed-term lay-offs in the applicable collective agreement.
